Back to life drawing

RSS feed

I've recently started life drawing classes as a way of loosening myself up a bit, from experience in sixth form it improves your drawing like nothing else.

As with anything there are moments where I think I'm terrible at it, times when I just can't get the legs at the right angle or the head to be the right size but all it takes is one drawing that, while it might not be perfect, has something about it. Above are a few that I think have that something and that I am pleased enough with the want to share with the world! Hope you like them as well.

Sketches from Sorrento

Just got back from an amazing trip to Sorrento in Italy with Mum, Kim and my sketchbook. Drawing quickly from life was a new thing really and it took a bit of time to really get into it so there are some pictures from the start of the holiday that won't be being shared with anyone! Once I got the hang of it though I really enjoyed it - it certainly teaches you to see what is characteristic about your subject and get that down fast!

From top to bottom: tourists at Marina Grande in Capri, Kim sleeping after day at Pompeii, Piazza Tasso in Sorrento, Versuvius and a groovy scooter!

It's life drawing, but not as we know it

<< Results of a recent figure drawing class

It was a fantasic morning with Lisa Jayne who has her own studio just outside Woodstock. Set miles off the beaten track in rolling countryside you can't help but be inspired, and a bit jealous!

I was quite worried that I would have lost my touch but was quite happy with the results, although feet and hands are still pretty tricky!
